AV-BIM Leads J-STD 710 2020 AV Symbols Preflight
The ANSI J-STD-710 Audio, Video and Control Architectural Drawing Symbols Standard was approved as an ANSI Standard in January 2015. It is now time for the first 5-Year ANSI Review and Revision by the J-STD groups (AVIXA, CEA and CEDIA).
In preparation for this, AV-BIM is inaugurating a AV Symbols Preflight to find what the industry desires. As AV Symbols Library users, you should join AV-BIM to participate in the Symbols Preflight. Your experience gives you the perfect insight needed for the J-STD 710 2020 Revision so you can:
- Symbols which should be revised or deleted
- Symbols which need to be added
- Abbreviations and terms to be added
- Legend and Schedule recommendations
- Applications stories of how you use AV Symbols
But first, a short overview of AV Symbols specification:
- Standardized symbols are simple, yet powerful, ways to communicate technologies in architectural drawings for use by architects, designers, builders, integrators and installation contractors
- Symbols should be readable in the crowded multi-discipline Floor Plans and/or Reflected Ceiling Plans—in other words, AV symbols are squeezed between AC vents and ducting, electrical and plumbing fixtures, etc.
- Symbols should be simple and recognizable shapes
- That are inscribed within a 0.354” (9mm) circle on the plotted paper at scale, such as a ¼” (6.5mm) square or 0.31” (7.7mm) triangle. In other words, the ¼” square must be ¼” on the plotted paper, which is very small and doesn’t allow a lot of detail
-
AV symbols must comply with the US National CAD
Standard (NCS) V6 Symbols Guidelines
